The staff at the Leigh-on-Sea surgery, are a friendly team of qualified veterinary surgeons, qualified nurses, experienced receptionists, and a dedicated animal care assistant.

The Leigh-on-Sea surgery has three consulting rooms, kennels, with a separate cat ward and an isolate area, preparation room with dental, x-ray, laboratory and ultrasound facilities and an operating theatre (where minor and major surgery is carried out).

Register Your Pet Online

During your Visit

On arrival you will be greeted by our friendly experienced reception staff who will register your details on our computer system (if we don’t know you already). This information will then be available at all of our surgeries.

Facilities

After a consultation in one of our three consulting rooms, our veterinary surgeons may recommend investigations using our our up to date diagnostic equipment including X-ray, and Laboratory testing (in house and using a high quality external laboratory).

Surgery

If needed we offer major and minor surgery including dentistry soft tissue surgery and orthopaedics. If your pet needs to stay in for treatment we have separate cat ward and isolate ward.

Margaret Daziano

Veterinary Surgeon, Practice Director

Margaret Daziano BVMS MRCVS, Practice Director, Qualified from Glasgow Vet School in 1985.

Margaret joined Downes in 1986 and now runs the Leigh Surgery. Like all the vets at Downes, Margaret is happy to treat a wide variety of ailments in a wide range of species but her special interests are cat medicine, dentistry, eye problems, and more recently having kept pet chickens, treating hens and ducks.

Margaret has three much loved rescue cats, Barney who is 18 years old, and Claude who is 5 years old and Coriander, the newest addition to the family, a three legged 10 year old tabby cat. Margaret is an avid football supporter (and supports a rival team to her husband!) and enjoys playing the flute in her spare time.

Mehul Magudia

Senior Veterinary Surgeon

Mehul Magudia BVetMed MRCVS graduated from the Royal Veterinary College in 2007.

Mehul’s first assistant position was in a mixed practice in Bedford, where he treated all creatures great and small, including a memorable operation on a squirrel monkey from Woburn Safari Park. Mehul was also commended by the RSPCA after helping the fire brigade and RSPCA in rescuing two stranded horses that had become trapped in the River Ivel near Sandy.

Since 2010 Mehul has focused on small animal medicine and has developed a keen interest in diagnostic imaging and anaesthesia. Mehul joined the team at Downes in March 2014 and became our Senior Veterinary Surgeon at our Leigh surgery in January 2015. In his free time Mehul can often be seen frequenting the hills of the Peak District with his young family and enjoying a pleasure cycle by the beach on a sunny day.

Lauren King

Veterinary Surgeon

Lauren King BVSc MRCVS graduated from Bristol University in 2011.

Lauren initially worked at small animal practices in South East London before moving to Downes in October 2012. Her particular interests are in soft tissue surgery and feline medicine. She is also able to do pet passports to help you travel with your pets.

She has a mischievous young cat called Lily who likes cuddles and pouncing on unsuspecting feet, and is hoping to get a dog to join the family in the near future. Her hobbies outside of work include baking, arts & crafts, running, skiing and horse riding.

Bethan Cook

Veterinary Surgeon

Bethan Cook BVMS MRCVS, Qualified from the Royal Vet College, London, 2013.

Beth studied Veterinary Medicine at the Royal Veterinary College in London and graduated in 2013. After a short period working in Swansea at a small animal practice, Beth moved to Essex to join the Downes team as an Associate Veterinary Surgeon in July 2014.

Beth is happy to treat dogs, cats, rabbits, guinea pigs and other small animals. As well as consultations for preventative healthcare, illness and injury, Beth also performs routine and emergency operations and diagnostic testing. Beth has an interest in cardiology which she hopes to gain more experience and develop her skills in further over the coming years.

Beth is originally from Lancashire, where she grew up in a small village with 11 pet dogs and two younger brothers. Whilst at college Beth volunteered for the local Cats Protection charity before leaving to go to university. Beth currently has three pet dogs, a pet rat and several chickens, who all still live at her family home in Lancashire. In her spare time, Beth enjoys outdoor activities such as running and snowboarding, as well as more relaxing pursuits like yoga and reading.

Laura Marshall

Veterinary Surgeon

Laura Marshall BVetMed MRCVS.

Laura has worked at Downes since qualifying as a veterinary surgeon from the Royal Vet College in 2007. As well as consultations for preventative healthcare, illness and injury, Laura also performs routine and emergency operations and diagnostic testing. Laura is originally from Southend-on-Sea, and has a pet Labrador called Albi.

Nicki Quick, RVN

Head Veterinary Nurse

Nicki has been at Downes for more than 15 years. Nicki joined us as a trainee and qualified as a veterinary nurse in 2003. In 2008 Nicki became the Head Nurse at our Leigh Surgery. As well as general nursing, Nicki helps to complete insurance forms for clients, and enjoys mentoring other nurses and assisting veterinary surgeons.  Nicki enjoys the variety and day to day challenges of her job.

 

Emily Prior, RVN

Head Veterinary Nurse, Clinical Co-ordinator

Emily trained as a veterinary nurse at Downes, and qualified in 2007. Emily is our Clinical Co-ordinator, ensuring a consistent approach across our three surgeries, and is also our deputy head nurse at our Leigh Surgery, Emily enjoys running nurse clinics and interacting with clients. Emily has two dogs, a Labrador and a crossbreed.

Helen Miller, RVN

Senior Veterinary Nurse

Helen has been nursing for more than 20 years and qualified as a veterinary nurse over 12 years ago. Helen has previously worked at small animal practices near Basildon and Benfleet, and joined the team at Downes in May 2011. Helen enjoys assisting our veterinary surgeons during surgery and advising clients during puppy and weight management clinics. Helen has three Cavalier King Charles Spaniels, and three cats.

Jacqui Lambert, RVN

Veterinary Nurse

Jacqui has worked at Downes since 2005, and qualified as a veterinary nurse in 2008. In 2009 Jacqui took a year off to go travelling, including volunteering with orangutans in Borneo. When Jacqui returned to the UK, she rejoined the team at Downes, and now works part-time to fit in with raising her young family. Jacqui enjoys nursing pets back to health and nurse clinics. Jacqui has a pet cat called Betsy.

Georgina Panter, RVN

Veterinary Nurse

Georgina joined Downes in 2007 as a trainee and qualified as a veterinary nurse in 2013. Georgina enjoys interacting with the animals, intensive nursing care and assisting with routine and emergency surgery. Georgina has 3 cats (one of which is 22 years old), a rescue Dogue de Bordeaux cross dog, 2 rabbits, pet fish, a gecko and a pet frog called ‘Froggy’.

Claire Feeney, RVN

Veterinary Nurse

Claire has been nursing since she was 17 years old, and qualified as a veterinary nurse in 2005 at a small animal practice near Chelmsford. In 2013 Claire joined the team at Downes, and enjoys nurse clinics and assisting in the operating theatre. Claire has a 2 year old rescue Mastiff crossbreed dog called Millie, as well as 3 chickens.

Faye Russell

Animal Care Assistant

Faye has worked at Downes for over 10 years and has a diploma in Animal Healthcare. Faye has a pet cat called Sparkle.

Lesley Dupuy

Head Receptionist

Lesley has been at Downes for more than 11 years, and became Head Receptionist at the Leigh surgery in January 2014. Lesley has a pet dog called Tilly who regularly joins Lesley on walking holidays in Devon and visiting family in Lincoln.
